INFO:
Tovalieri is a former centre forward. His professional career started in 1983. He played in Serie A, Serie B and Serie C1, being prolific in all these categories. He had his best time at Bari, where he scored 40 goals in 86 appearances from 1993 to 1996. His only Serie A season with Bari in 1995-96 was especially very good: he scored 17 times, placing himself fifth in the top goalscorers ranking. He definitely deserved a call up for Italy that year. He played also for Pescara, Arezzo, Roma, Avellino, Ancona, Atalanta, Reggiana, Cagliari, Sampdoria, Perugia and Ternana. He retired in 2000.
Tovalieri was a prolific left-footed striker, gifted with excellent scoring and positional sense. He had remarkable technique and great accuracy on both feet but his shots rarely had power. He could score with ease either in a 1-on-1 situation with the goalkeeper or using volleys from difficult positions, showing high effectiveness also with the outside. He didn't possess outstanding speed but his short sprints on the offside line or between two opponents in order to dribble them were good enough to beat the defences most of the times. Also a very good header, he was a dangerous opportunist in the box when he received accurate high crosses.
