Labbadia was very efective player, his style of play was very similar to Gerd Muller. Labbadia needed very little space to turn and shoot. Predatory striker in the box scoring lot of spectacular goals with volleys and overhead kicks. He wasn't tall but was strong physically. In 1984 he began his professional career with Darmstadt. He played for three seasons, scoring 50 goals, until the summer of 1987, when he was sold to Hamburg, a team in the first division. He wore the Hamburg shirt for a season and a half, before moving to Kaiserslautern, where he remained for another season and a half, winning the national cup in 1990 and the West German league in 1991. In the summer of 1991 he was bought by Bayern Munich. In 1994 he moved to Cologne, but in January 1996 he was bought by Werder Bremen, a club where he played until the end of the 1997-1998 season, scoring 18 goals in 63 matches. Now thirty-two years old, in the summer of 1998 he was sold to Arminia Bielefeld, a team in the Second Division. He ended his career in 2003. In an illustrious career, Labbadia recorded 103 goals in 328 league games having played for some of Germany's top Bundesliga clubs. He had two caps for the Germany national football team. He is the only player ever to have scored more than 100 goals in both Bundesliga and 2. Bundesliga. |
