Onorati was a midfielder, who played on the left side, behind the strikers or in the center. He spent most of his career at Genoa, playing 230 matches and scoring 17 goals from 1990 to 1996 plus a the 1988-89 season on loan from Fiorentina. He played also for Pistoiese, Avellino and Nice. He retired in 1999.
A consistent player, Onorati was one of those highly dynamic midfielder who moved a lot during the match thanks to a very good stamina. He had a good physique, was gifted with speed on progression, remarkable technique and dribbling ability. He provided several scoring chances with either short or long passes but also possessed a shot with good power, which could be dangerous from outside the box or a difficult position.
