INFO:

Alen Bokšić was legendary Croatian striker, never a prolific scorer but instead a hard worker of Dirk Kuyt's type, with very strong shot and body trangth and speed. Alen Boksic was born in a costal locality of Croatia called Makarska, 60 kilometers far from Spalato.Since he was a child he dreamt to become a football player and, being just 17, he began to play for Hajiduk Spalato in the Jugoslav Serie A.He stayed there for 4 seasons winning the Jugoslav Cup in 1991. Nevertheless he was traded, the same year, to Marseille where Bernard Tapie paid him just 2 thousand millions of italian Lira.He was immediately loaned to Cannes where he just played one game because of bureaucratic problems concerning his trade. The next year he made his debut with Marseille, winning both the Championship and the Champions League, and emerging as the top-scorer of both competitions. Lazio's owner Sergio Cragnotti, admiring his performances, decided to acquire him for the next year (1993). With Lazio he proved to be a great leader but not a great scorer. He was often criticized for missing easy goals, but fans still loved him because of his commitment and generosity. His first experience with Lazio ended after 3 seasons, 17 goals and 18 assists.

A troubled relationship with coach Zeman pushed him to Juventus in 1996.There he found a winning team which allowed him to achieve a Championship and an Intercontinental Cup, still emerging as a very powerful dribbler who lacks in scoring. Meanwhile Zeman left Lazio and Boksic came back to Rome. Lazio is now a very competitive team which added several ìstarsî and, finally, feels itself ready to win something. This season, then, Beppe Signori was sent to Sampdoria and this move revealed itself to be a real turning point both for Lazio and for Boksic.Since then, infact, they both started playing a better and more winning football.Lazio became one of the strongest antagonists of Juventus and Alen began to score many more goals than usual.Being 28 he probably reached his maturity and if he can prove to be consistent as a scorer he could even aspire to the Golden Football. Bokšić was part of the Yugoslav national team at the World Cup 1990 in Italy, but didn't play in any game. After independence Bokšić played for the Croatian national team, and was a member at the European Championships 1996 in England, and the World Cup 2002 in Japan and South Korea. Although Bokšić helped team to qualify for World Cup in France 1998 by scoring decisive goal against Ukraine in additional qualifier, injury has prevented him to play at the World Cup, where the Croatian national team achieved its greatest success in history - 3rd place. Alen Bokšić scored also another important important goal for the team in the final game of qualifying for the World Cup 2002, when Croatia in Zagreb beat Belgium 1-0. In April 2007. he took the position as vice president of Hajduk as legitimate successor Branko Grgic, but with Grgić's departure he left the club.
