Casiraghi is a former centre forward. His career began in 1985 at Monza, where he scored 33 goals in 113 matches in four seasons between Serie B and Serie C1. He joined Juventus in 1989, scoring 36 times in 147 games until he left in 1993. He eventually his most prolific time at Lazio, scoring 56 goals in 188 appearances until 1998. He retired two years later after a short spell at Chelsea due to an awful injury that he suffered at the beginning of the first season with the "Blues". He gained 44 caps for Italy, scoring 13 goals and taking part to the 1994 FIFA World Cup and 1996 UEFA Euro.
A typical in-box striker, Casiraghi was compared to Roberto Boninsegna even though he wasn't as prolific as Bonimba. Gifted with athleticism and a strong physique, Casiraghi didn't possess an excellent technique but had great speed, especially on sprint, and quick dribbling that he used in many occasions to go past the opposing goalkeeper. His shots were powerful and he could score in spectacular ways. His main quality arguably was the high efficiency in the air thanks to accurate heading and outstanding leap. Despite his position being centre forward, he moved along the entire attacking zone, creating space for his teammates and sometimes delivering good passes.
