Negro is a former centre or right back. He spent the majority of his career at Lazio, playing 376 matches and scoring 24 goals from 1993 to 2005. He won with the Biancocelesti three Italian Cups, two Italian Supercups, a Cup Winners' Cup, a UEFA Supercup and a Scudetto. He played also for Brescia, Bologna and Siena, where he retired in 2007. He gained 8 caps for Italy and took part to UEFA Euro 2000.
Negro was a reliable strong defender and hard tackler, tactically intelligent, excellent in the air and dangerous when shooting from long range. Thanks to good stamina and fine pace, he could push forward effectively down the right flank after he gained possession of the ball. He was a specialist at zone marking as well as careful at man marking. He was gifted also with good technique and distribution of the ball.
