Ba is a former right side midfielder, comfortable also on the left. His career began in 1991 at Le Havre, where he played 140 matches and scored 8 goals in five years. He transferred to Bordeaux for the 1996-97 season, scoring 6 times in 41 appearances. He then joined Milan, where he had a good first year, playing 41 games, scoring once and providing 11 assists. He unfortunately broke his leg the following season and never properly recovered. He played also for Perugia, Olympique de Marseille, Bolton, Çaykur Rizespor and Djurgårdens. He retired in 2008 after one last year at Milan even though he never played. He gained 8 caps for France, scoring twice.
Ba was a very fast player, especially on acceleration, who was excellent on the side, combining fine technique and excellent physical attributes. He possessed great stamina, good and quick dribbling, was effective when inserting himself after overcoming a defender before delivering an assist, especially with accurate and fast passes, even though not always accurately. Other than being injury prone, he lacked of consistency.
