Annoni was a side-back, occasionally a centre back. He played mostly for Como and Torino: 110 matches and 2 goals with the Lariani from 1983 to 1990 (excluding a two-year spell at Sambenedettese between 1985 and 1987); 143 games and 7 goals with the Granata from 1990 to 1994. He also played for Roma and Celtic, where he retired in 1999.
Annoni was a strong defender and good marker. Not too effective in 1-on-1 challenges, he often used to make hard tackles on his opponents. He was a good marker but he was mostly effective and dominant in the air. His good speed was helpful when he had to anticipate an opponent. He was also gifted with a powerful shot he occasionally tried also from free kick.
