Maspero is a former attacking midfielder, also able to play in the center or the left side. He spent most of his career at Cremonese, playing 246 matches and scoring 35 goals from 1988 to 1997 ─ excluding the 1994-95 season at Sampdoria. He played also for Varese, Lecce, Vicenza, Perugia, Reggiana, Torino and Fiorentina among others. He retired in 2012 after around a decade in lower leagues.
Undoubtedly one of the best players of Cremonese in the early 1990s, Maspero was a talented and creative playmaker. He was gifted with good technique, dribbling and fine speed. However, he didn't make too much movement, preferring to provide assists from outside the box. In fact, he possessed great vision and was an excellent assist-man, whose passes and even more crosses were not only very accurate but also fast. Almost only left-footed, he wasn't just a midfielder who created scoring chances, but he was also a good shooter and a specialist from free kick and penalty.
