Massara is a former left winger. Grown up at Torino, he never debuted with them. He was sold to Serie C team Pavia, where he had four very good seasons. Noticed and bought by Pescara in 1991 and played 103 matches, scoring 11 goals in three seasons. He then played for Fidelis Andria, Palermo and Arezzo, before coming back to Pescara in 1999 but the season was unsuccessful. He retired in 2006.
Massara wasn't a prolific scorer but he made some nice goals with volleys and first time during his period at Pescara. He was gifted with good feet ─ he used almost only the left ─ fine technique and dribbling, great agility and speed, especially on acceleration. He lacked of strength due to his small physique. An occasional assist-man, he mainly looked to finalize the action.
