Vignal was a left back or left midfielder. He grew up at Montpellier. A promising player, he was bought by Liverpool in 2000. Due mostly to injuries and the fact that the "Reds" already had John Arne Riise, he didn't find a place in the team. He was loaned to Bastia, Stade Rennais, Espanyol and Rangers. He had in Scotland his best season, in 2004-05, playing 42 matches and winning the Scottish League and Cup. Then he played for Portsmouth, Lens, Kaiserslautern, Southampton, Birmingham City, Atromitos, Dundee United and Béziers. He retired in 2013.
Vignal was an average player. He had nice strength, good speed and decent technique. More effective when supporting the attack rather than staying in defence, he could be helpful forward with crosses. During his season at Rangers, he proved to be dangerous from the distance, scoring three goals with long range shots.
