Michael Jakobsen is a Danish defender best remembered for his time at Aalborg where he showed some standout performances in the club's European runs in the late 2000s. In the 2008/09 season he scored against both Manchesters United and City, as well as Deportivo in European competitions. In fact he was a talented player who got some attention from Premier League and Bundesliga clubs and made a few appearances for the Danish national team, but after joining Almeria in 2010 his career started to decline and he never fulfilled his potential. Jakobsen mainly played as a left back but he could comfortably play as a centre back too. He was gifted with good ball skills, passing ability and decent speed for a tall defender, and was a reliable penalty taker. After playing for several teams from 2010 onwards with little success, he settled down in Australia in 2016 where he has won 3 trophies and established a good career. For Aalborg fans he is a favourite and remembered for his part in famous results including a draw with defending European champions Manchester United and a fantastic 6-1 aggregate win over Deportivo in the UEFA Cup.
