Sabri is a former goalkeeper. His career began in 1999. He played for many clubs including Al-Zawraa, Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya, Al-Talaba, Duhok, Al-Naft, Al-Mina'a and Al-Shorta. He retired in 2020. He gained 100 caps for Iraq, taking part to 2004 Olympics, 2007 AFC Asian Cup and 2012 Arab Cup. He was a key player during Iraq's successful campaign at the 2007 AFC Asian Cup, where he conceded only 2 goals and saved one of the penalties missed by South Korea at the penalty shootout in the semifinal. In fact, he was named best goalkeeper of the tournament.
A reliable and consistent goalkeeper, Sabri kept the sheet clean in 33 of his 100 matches with Iraq. He was gifted with excellent reaction, good goalkeeping skills, agility, fine speed and could use also his feet to make saves. He possessed a decent leap and was comfortable out of the goal, especially when he had to catch a ball from a cross or reject it with his punches. He also was a penalty saver specialist. He preferred delivering long goal kicks rather than playing the ball short but even though he gave the ball enough speed, the passes weren't always accurate.
