INFO:
Akram is a former central or attacking midfielder. His career began in 1999. He played in Iraq for Salahaddin, Al-Shorta, Al-Zawraa, Al-Wakrah and Erbil ─ where he retired in 2016 ─ in Saudi Arabia for Al-Nassr and Al-Shabab, in the United Arab Emirates for Al-Ain and Al-Nasr, in Qatar for Al-Gharafa and Lekhwiya, in the Netherlands for Twente, in China for Dalian Aerbin. He gained 117 caps for Iraq, scoring 17 goals, taking part to the 2007 AFC Asian Cup, where he was named MVP of the tournament. Throughout his career, he received interest fro club such as Sunderland and Málaga while Manchester City almost signed him in 2008 but the transfer was denied due to work permit issues.
Surely one of the greatest midfielders in the history of Iraq, Akram was an intelligent, creative, cunny, cool-headed and creative playmaker, renowned mainly for his exceptional vision and excellent passing ability as well as his free kicks and threatening long range shots, even though he also missed many. He showed great passing ability since he was young, delivering accurate balls that penetrated the defence. Equally precise with both feet as well as the outside, he could send very fast passes without them losing accuracy, especially the short ones, but was also a very capable crosser and usually took corners. Preferring playing simple, he wasn't fast but could sometimes overcome the opponents with very good dribblings, leading the defenders to commit foul in numerous occasions.
