INFO:Li Tie is a former defensive midfielder. His career began at Liaoning, where he played 82 matches from 1999 to 2002. He then transferred to Everton ─ against the skepticism of the club ─ and made 33 appearances in the first, successful, season. Unfortunately, the following one he played only 7 games due to a series of injuries, the worst of which was a broken leg picked up during an international match in 2004. Never playing again for Everton, in 2006 he joined Sheffield United, making only one appearance in two seasons. He returned to China, playing for Chengdu Blades and Liaoning. He retired in 2011 after yet another leg injury. He gained 89 caps China, scoring 5 goals and playing all three matches of the group stage at the 2002 FIFA World Cup.
A commanding, enforcing midfielder, Li Tie was an able tackler and fierce fighter, distinguished for strength, good physical fitness and relentless run. He possessed all that even though he had a thin physique, lacked of speed and agility. In fact, he made up for these gaps with brain and tactical awareness as he was gifted with high vision of the overall situation of the game, good sense of position, great stamina, accurate passing, excellent technique, fine dribbling, handling of the ball. Remarkably careful during the defensive phase, he didn't dislike occasionally pushing forward, supporting well the offensive line even though he wasn't a scorer. Mainly right-footed, he could use the left too and was comfortable with the outside.
