INFO:Shao Jiayi is a former attacking or side midfielder and winger, sometimes deployed as secondary striker, central midfielder or centre forward. His career began in 1999 at Beijing Guoan, where he made 82 appearances in four seasons, scoring 13 goals. His good performance at the 2002 FIFA World Cup, convinced Bundesliga team 1860 München to sign him. He played 62 matches with
die Löwen from 2002 to 2006, scoring 10 times. He remained in Germany for six more seasons, five of them at Energie Cottbus, where he made 64 appearances and scored 10 goals. The last one was at Duisburg. He retired in 2015 after returning to Beijing Guoan in 2012. He capped for China 40 times, scoring 8 goals.
Shao Jiayi's main qualities were his superb technique, excellent passing ability, and high accuracy from free kick ─ 1860 München fans nicknamed him Beckham of China for that reason. He even scored once directly from corner during his time at Energie Cottbus. Extremely capable with his natural left foot, he could use the right foot quite well. Gifted with a powerful shot, he could score from difficult positions, giving the ball great curling particularly from set piece. He wasn't notably fast and lacked a of strength in physical challenges, although he could dribble well in order to keep the ball. He preferred playing on the left side to organise the attacking play. Very sensitive and self-confident, he easily gained courage after scoring a goal. Highly versatile, he always showed good attitude and spirit, no matter what position he played in. On the other hand, he wasn't active in the defensive phase. He wasn't consistent but proved to be highly effective when coming in as substitute both during his peak and in his late years. Unfortunately, he suffered many injuries throughout his career.
