Mubarak is a former left back or left midfielder. He spent the majority of his career at Qatar SC, making 188 league appearances from 1999 to 2009, scoring 11 goals. He played also for Al-Rayyan, Al-Gharafa and Al-Ahli Doha, where he retired in 2018. Considered as one of the best prospects of Qatar during the 2000s, he was loaned to Feyenoord in 2003 but never played. He gained 67 official caps for Qatar, scoring twice.
Compared to Brazilian legend Roberto Carlos, Mubarak was one of the best players in Qatar to act offensively and defensively equally well and with balance down the side. He possessed high speed on long distance and numerous tricks to keep the ball and overcome the defenders. He supported the attack a lot thanks to his constant movements on the flank and good passing ability. His pinpoint crosses from his own half were also quite accurate. Capable from set piece, he could take free kicks and corners. He was good in the defence thanks to his anticipation and tackling ability and, despite being short, he could intercept the ball with the head after positioning himself in the correct spot.
