Yang Chen is a former centre forward, who could be deployed as secondary striker and attacking midfielder. He had his best time in Germany at Eintracht Frankfurt, where he played from 1998 to 2002, making 99 appearances and scoring 23 goals. He played also for Beijing Guoan, St. Pauli, Shenzhen and Xiamen Lanshi. He capped for China in 35 occasions, scoring 11 goals, taking part to the 2000 AFC Asian Cup and 2002 FIFA World Cup.
Considered one of the best strikers in Chinese history, Yan Chen was tall, in possession of fine strength, great speed, explosiveness, footwork, good technical skills. He was accurate inside the box, although he could score remarkable goals with volleys or shots from outside the area. Also, he could make late runs towards the goal and score with headers, with the help of his notable height and good reaction.
