INFO:
Carnell is a former left-back who could also play as left side midfielder and centre-back. His career started in 1993 at Wits University. He joined Kaizer Chiefs in 1997. He transferred to Germany in 1998 when he signed for Stuttgart. Here, he had his most successful time even though he wasn't always a starter. He made 107 appearances and scored 3 goals in five seasons. He then played Borussia Mönchengladbach, Karlsruher, Hansa Rostock in Germany, and SuperSport United in South Africa, retiring in 2011. He capped for South Africa 41 times.
Carnell was a good side-back, fast when he had enough space, less in short distances, gifted with solid technical abilities and ball distribution, even though his crosses weren't always accurate. He ran up and down a lot, balancing his style of play well between attack and defence, proving to be helfpul in both, although he didn't really excel in either. Nonetheless, his passes exchanges with his teammates or his usually good slide tackles were noteworthy. Carnell was also a long throw specialist. A natural left-footed, he very rarely used the right foot even though he was quite accurate with it.
