Daf is a former side-back, who could also play as centre-back. His career started in 1997 at Sochaux where he played until 2009 and came back for the 2012-13 season, his last before his retirement. He made 220 appearances for the club. He also played for Stade Brestois between 2009 and 2012. He capped 60 times for Senegal, finishing runner-up at the 2002 Africa Cup of Nations and taking part to the FIFA World Cup the same year.
Daf was a solid defender who possessed good anticipation, tackling and great pace, especially over short distances. He also had a good jump, a powerful kick, and decent dribbling, although he wasn't fast on the ball. His ball distribution was sometimes decent but often defective. What's peculiar is the fact that he often used the left foot, in particular when he played as left-back, even though his accuracy with the weak foot was nowhere near the one he had with his natural one. Another issue was the speed of his long passes, usually too high to the point that the passes were either too long or difficult for his teammates to control.
