Dudek is a former goalkeeper. His career started in 1991 at Concordia Knurów. He transferred to Sokół Tychy for the 1995-96 season. He was noticed by Dutch giants Feyenoord that signed him in 1996. He debuted one year later, though, and made 156 appearances in four seasons. He eventually had his most successful time at Liverpool where he played 184 matches from 2001 to 2007, becoming one of the heroes of Istanbul when he saved two penalties during the shootouts of the 2004-05 UEFA Champions League final against Milan. Dudek retired in 2011 after spending four years as Real Madrid's reserve keeper. He capped for Poland 60 times.
While his performances weren't always great due to the blunders he would make from time to time, including in the aforementioned Champions League final, Dudek was a fearless keeper and remarkable penalty saver who possessed safe handling of crosses, excellent reflexes, a great jump, and the ability to command his area with authority. He would even leave his area to anticipate his opponent and clear the ball with a tackle or header if necessary. He never had issues in blocking less threatening shots with ease. But he was also notably effective in rejecting more powerful shots, sometimes doing so with one hand. Moreover, his ball distribution was solid, proven especially by his long goal kicks that often had speed and accuracy.
