Sébastien Frey was a goalkeeper. He spent most of his career at Parma from 2001 to 2005 and Fiorentina from 2005 to 2011, playing respectively 159 and 218 matches. He played also for Cannes, Inter, Hellas Verona, Genoa and Bursaspor, where he retired in 2015. He capped twice for France.
Frey was a consistent goalkeeper, regarded as one of the best in Serie A during the 2000s. He was renowned for his leadership, mentality, sense of position and dynamicity. He was incredibly reactive thanks to his agility between the posts and effective in 1-on-1 situations due to his ability to rush out quickly. Comfortable with the feet, he could use them either to save shots in acrobatic ways or to distribute the ball. Despite being good in the air, he wasn't always effective at coming off the goal to block high crosses.
