Marco Rossi is a former side midfielder or wing back, mostly deployed on the right, and capable of playing also as central midfielder, side back, winger, and even as defensive midfielder or centre back out of necessity. Debuting in 1996 at Lucchese, he played also for Salernitana, Fiorentina and Como before signing for Genoa in 2003. He had his best time with the Grifoni, making 300 appearances in a decade, scoring 32 goals, filling the captain role for several seasons, helping the team qualifying for a European competition nearly twenty years after the last time, and becoming a legend of the club. He retired in 2013.
Known particularly for his high versatility that allowed him to play almost in every position, Rossi was one of the leaders of Genoa during the 2010s due especially to his spirit of sacrifice. He possessed solid pace and excellent stamina to move up and down the flank in order to cover it, supporting both defence and attack. He was gifted with good ball distribution, fine technical and shooting skill. Therefore, he could challenge opponents one-on-one, find the space for beating them on the sprint and for delivering an assist, or pass the ball before receiving it back and attempting to score. He sometimes showed a solid first time shot and possessed the ability to make late runs thanks to a good instinct inside the box. From a defensive standpoint, he didn't have a remarkable man marking ability, but he had solid anticipation and good timing in the tackle.
