Back in 2010, I remember Gilberto being quite a random cap by the NT. I believe he had been away from the squad for a couple of years, but then, for an unknown reason to the public, André Santos stopped being called up by Dunga, and Gilberto was back into the squad.

He barely appeared as a LB for Cruzeiro, playing mostly as a n°10 with freedom to run around by both sides and step a lot inside the box, being almost a SS at times. His TEC-related displays were decent, but not consistent enough overall to deserve a cap to the WC, I believe. He surely could be more defensive than Michel Bastos, but Michel was way faster and could be more of a threat to the opposite side.
