Edwin van der Sar has been Manchester United’s most dependable goalkeeper since Peter Schmeichel. For the last five seasons he has been the club's senior goalkeeper. The early years of van der Sar’s career were spent at Ajax. There he enjoyed considerable success, including victory in the 1995-1996 UEFA Champions League. At the end of 1998-1999, when Peter Schmeichel left Manchester United, van der Sar signed for Juventus. Alex Ferguson later claimed that he had wanted to sign van der Sar then, but it didn’t work out. After two years at Juventus, van der Sar joined Fulham after being replaced at Juventus by the world’s most expensive goalkeeper, Gianluigi Buffon. Ahead of the 2005-2006 season Alex Ferguson finally signed van der Sar, although by then van der Sar was approaching thirty-five.

During his time at Manchester United, van der Sar has been a consistent performer. He has been calm and undemonstrative (except after saving from Nicholas Anelka in the penalty shoot-out of the 2007-2008 UEFA Champions League final). He is a key part of what has often been a very solid defence. In 2008-2009, the team went fourteen league games, and van der Sar a record 1,311 minutes, without conceding a goal. Some suggest he could be more dominating in his penalty area, others that he doesn't catch as many crosses as he might. But he retains Sir Alex Ferguson's confidence and, though now nearly forty, remains the club's first-choice goalkeeper. Van der Sar first played for Holland in 1995. He retired from international football in 2008 and is still his country’s most capped player.

I’ve been watching some clips of this United team recently, and I was surprised to see him make so many mistakes, maybe he wasn’t as consistent and reliable as I remember him being. Most of the errors were communication ones, with him coming out at the wrong time or not shouting to his teammate to leave the ball. Maybe TMW could come down a bit, 87 is already incredibly high for a goalkeeper...

Yes, same error as in Pfaff's thread.
Needs to be in 80.
