Mohammed is a former centre back or sweeper, capable of playing also as defensive midfielder. He spent almost his entire career at Al-Gharafa, making 180 appearances from 2003 to 2017 and scoring 9 goals. He retired in 2019 after short experiences at Al-Markhiya and Umm Salal. He gained 114 caps for Qatar, scoring 7 goals. He captained the side in many occasions, including at the 2011 AFC Asian Cup, where his team reached the quarter-finals.
Mohammed was a reliable defender and man marker, gifted with high pace on long distance, strength and very good anticipation ability, usually putting himself in front of his opponent in order to take the ball from him and defend it efficiently. Strong in the air, he could beat his opponents with good leaps and header clearances. His heading ability also made him a threat in the opposing box. Moreover, he possessed decent technique and dribbling as well as ball distribution, often preferring to deliver long balls from the back, which though weren't always very accurate.
