Ansgar Brinkmann was one of the most talented German players of all time, fantastic technician and dribbler with good passing abilities and good speed but also with an attitude that was far away from professionalism (he could play one match one the level of a world class player and the next match on the level of the lowest league) . Brinkmann played his first match in the Bundesliga when he was already 29 years old and played only 59 matches in the Bundesliga but at least 316 matches in the 2. Bundesliga. Maybe his lack of professionalism was the main reason why Brinkmann was one of the most popular German footballers of his generation and the reason why he is still so popular in Germany.
