Bellamy is a former winger, capable of playing also as centre forward, secondary striker and side midfielder. His career began in 1996 at Norwich City, where he made 91 appearances and scored 34 goals in four seasons, before having a good year at Coventry City. He then had his best time at Newcastle United, scoring 43 times in 128 matches from 2001 to 2005. He eventually had several short experiences at Celtic, Blackburn Rovers ─ this one in 2005-06 was especially remarkable ─ Liverpool, West Ham United, Manchester City and Cardiff City, where he retired in 2014. He gained 78 caps for Wales, scoring 19 goals.
Bellamy was dynamic and gifted with outstanding speed equally on both long and short distance. His short burst of speed though were particularly effective in combination with superb dribbling that he often used to converge towards the center. He was offensively aggressive and helpful during counter-attacks since he could reach quickly the opposing area and look for space to score or pass the ball. He was fragile and lacked of strength but this allowed him to gain numerous penalties because he didn't fear challenging the defenders. His playstyle was versatile. In fact, he also liked moving behind the defenders, waiting for the ball before eventually tap the ball in or face the goalkeeper in a 1-on-1 situation. For this reason, he adapted very well as centre forward, showing very good reaction especially when he took advantage of any mistake made by a defender. Moreover, he Despite possessing decent heading and a very good finishing ability on both feet and first time, he used to miss many goals from very favourable positions. He could've reached his full potential after leaving Newcastle United, but several injuries and a lack of consistency stopped him from reaching it. On the other hand, he was proved to be a hardworking player with great stamina who kept trying even after many minutes in the match.
