INFO:Verpakovskis is a former centre forward, secondar striker or winger. He had his best time at Skonto from 2001 to 2003 and Dynamo Kyiv from 2003 to 2007, scoring respectively 41 goals in 77 matches and 20 in 74. He played also for Getafe, Hajduk Split, Celta de Vigo and other clubs in Latvia, Greece and Azerbaijan. He retired in 2015. He capped for Latvia 104 times, scoring 29 goals and taking part to the 2004 UEFA Euro.
Verpakovskis was a short but very fast player who liked making runs in progression towards the opposing box. He possessed very good technical qualities and excellent dribbling skills as well as remarkable scoring and positional sense. He was capable of scoring outstanding goals like a bycicle kick against Greece or one against Germany at the 2004 UEFA Euro when he dribbled four opponents before beating the goalkeeper. That goal was almost candidate for goal of the tournament. He also had a decent heading ability. Unfortunately, he lacked of consistency throughout his whole career and his peak ended in the first half of his experience with Dynamo Kyiv.
