Djimi Traoré is a former left-back and centre-back. His career began in 1997 at Stade Lavallois. He had his longest experience at Liverpool from 1999 to 2006, playing 141 matches and scoring once. He wasn't a regular there and made most of his appearances in 2002-03 and 2004-05. In the latter season, he was a big help in the second half of the UEFA Champions League final against Milan, making several saves after a not good first part of match. He then played for Lens, Charlton Athletic, Portsmouth, Stade Rennais, Birmingham City, Monaco, Olympique de Marseille and Seattle Sounders, retiring in 2014. He capped 6 times for Mali.
A tall, strong and clever defender, Traoré acted mainly in the back but supported the attack when he had space to push forward even though he wasn't too effective in that role. He wasn't technically very gifted but possessed good speed for a man of his size and fine crossing ability. In defence, he possessed good reaction, tackling, sense of position and solid ability in the air.
