Govou was one of the best players in the legendary Olympique Lyonnais generation that won 7 consecutive Ligue 1 titles. He could play at any position in the attack, but he was mainly employed as a winger. He was fast, with good dribbles and crosses, also possesing powerful shot. His main quality was his trapping the ball. He had good physical attributes all round, and he was a player who would often help teammates in defensive tasks. He scored some great goals but his composure in front of the goal wasn't at high level, after all that's one of the reasons that he was moved to the wing. He played in 49 games for French NT and scored 10 goals, two most famous of his goals came against Italy in Euro 2008 qualifying match. He was a part of the French side that reached World Cup final in 2006.
