Baroš is a centre forward or secondary striker. His career began in 1998 at Baník Ostrava, where he played until 2002, making 76 appearances and scoring 23 goals. He transferred to Liverpool, staying there for three and a half seasons, scoring 27 times in 108 matches. After unsuccessful experiences at Aston Villa, Olympique Lyonnais and Portsmouth, he joined Galatasaray in 2008. He spent four seasons in the Turkish team, scoring 61 goals in 116 games. He then played for Baník Ostrava, Antalyaspor, Mladá Boleslav and Slovan Liberec. He gained 93 caps for Czech Republic, scoring 41 goals, taking part to the 2004 and 2008 UEFA Euro as well as the 2006 FIFA World Cup. He was a major feature during the 2004 UEFA Euro, helping his team reaching the semifinal and winning the Golden Boot by scoring 5 goals in the tournament.
A talented forward with a fearless attacking style, Baroš was renowned particularly for his quickness and dribbling skills. He possessed a good build, explosives skills, coolness in front of the goalkeeper and was excellent at making tap-ins but not very prolific with the clubs, except during his period at Galatasaray. On the other hand, he was gifted with superb ball control, shot technique, decent heading and fine passing ability, providing numerous assists. His injury proneness and not always good physical conditions affected his career.
