Sorrentino is a former goalkeeper. He spent his most successful seasons at ChievoVerona from 2008 to 2013 and from 2016 to 2019, making 271 appearances. He had remarkable seasons also at Palermo from 2013 to 2016. He played also for Torino, AEK and Recreativo de Huelva. He retired from professional football in 2020.
One of the most underrated Italian goalkeepers in recent memories, Sorrentino was superb and highly consistent. He was able to make fantastic saves also with his feet and was a great penalty saver. He often used to come out of the goal especially behind a four-men defence, while he remained more between the posts behind a three-men defence. He was agile, possessed good leap and excellent reflexes, was equally efficient at stopping balls from long or short distance.
