Campolo was a central or defensive midfielder. His career began at Reggina in 1990. He was in 1993 by Fiorentina, who was looking for a new Roberto Baggio. However he was nicknamed "Maradona of the Sila" because he was more similar to the Argentinian: he was short, had passing ability and good technique. However he didn't impress much and was sold in 1995. Then he played for Pistoiese, Giulianova, Ancona, Perugia and Catania before joining Messina in 2001. He was a very important player who helped the team reaching the Serie A promotion in 2002-03. Unfortunately he couldn't play in Serie A because he was sold right before the start of the season to Catanzaro, where he retired a year later.
