Yasuhito Endō is a central midfielder, capable of playing as attacking midfielders and less frequently as right side or defensive midfielder. He spent the majority of his career at Gamba Osaka from 2001 to 2020, making 790 appearances, scoring 125 goals and providing nearly 180 assists. He previously played for Yokohama Flügels and Kyoto Purple Sanga. He signed for Júbilo Iwata in 2020. He's Japan's most capped player with 152 appearances, complemented by 15 goals.
Considered one of the greatest players in Japan history, Endō showed throughout his career outstanding creativity, short and long passing skills with either foot, giving the pass excellent accuracy also with the outside, first time and even from a static position. In addition, he has great leadership, technical and dribbling skills, superb goalscoring ability. He has fine strength and he's not remarkably fast but he runs a lot for his team, showing an offensive attitude but not disliking some defensive support. He can keep and defend the ball extremely well due to his technique and turning skills before delivering an unmarking pass to a well positioned teammate. He's an excellent free kick and penalty specialist. All these qualities transformed him into a cult hero for fans of both Gamba Osaka and Japan national team.
