Jorge Costa was legendary Porto defender, whose spell at the club lasted for 15 years. He was known strong willed and physically strong defender. He had good defensive positioning, but his greatest asset was his strength which he used very cleverly in confrontations with attackers. He was very combative player, and was a leader on the pitch, but he could play very dirty and get cards and suspensions without much need. He was pretty slow, and that was much more explicit when he was older. Sometimes when the opponent is much faster than him, he would just knock him over. He was good man marker. He was the captain of the 2004 Champions League and 2003 UEFA Cup winning generation. He represented Portuguese NT in 50 games.
