Mignani is a former centre back. He spent the majority of his career at Siena from 1996 to 2005, making 258 appearances, scoring 7 goals and captaining the side for eight years, becoming one of the most important players in the history of the club. His #4 jersey number was retired after he left the team. He played for several other clubs including Sampdoria, Spal, Monza, Pistoiese, Lucchese and Triestina. He retired in 2009.
Mignani was a good defender, careful and consistent. He was the leader of Siena's defence for many years. He possessed very good teamworking and sometimes adopted a playstyle more similar to a sweeper, advancing to the midfield to drive his team forward. He wasn't very tall but possessed fine strength and a good heading ability, which was helpful during set pieces. He occasionally committed mistakes especially in the last parts of the match.
