Attack/Defence Awareness Card: Defence MindedINFO:Bjørn Kristensen is a former Danish defender and midfielder best remembered for his time at Newcastle and AGF, and also for playing 20 games for the Danish national team. Kristensen was a tall, strong and uncompromising player, sometimes clumsy but aggressive with his tackling. Not the quickest or most mobile player but he enjoyed getting forward and scoring with his head or with his powerful long range shot. He could make some powerful runs with the ball and his short passing was reliable. When defending he relied on his strength in the air and on the ground and it was difficult to challenge him 1-on-1, but his marking and positioning inside the box could be inconsistent. He struggled to stop tricky and agile players, often relying on fouling them, although he was decently fast over long distances. He was noted for his versatility, primarily playing as a CB in a back 4 and as the right sided CB in a back 5 for Denmark, but he also played as a right back and defensive midfielder for his clubs on occasion due to his good offensive skills. He is a legend at AGF for being part of their 1986 league winning team and also participating in the European Cup Winners Cup in the 88/89 season, where AGF reached the quarter finals before only losing to eventual champions Barcelona 1-0 after two legs. At Newcastle he was a fan favourite for his moustache and aggressive but forward-thinking style of play. He also participated at Euro 88, playing the full 90 minutes in a group stage game vs Italy.
