INFO:

Majed Abdullah is widely considered the most legendary and best Saudi Footballer ever, and as one of the best Asian players in history. He is the top scorer in the history of the Saudi Arabian national team, the Saudi Professional League, and his only club, Al-Nassr. Nicknamed "the Desert Pelé", Majed was something more like a Saudi van Basten, tall and elegant with brilliant dribbling ability. He was well known for dribbling past the goalkeeper and scoring, he was lethal in 1-on-1 situations. And while he wasn't known for any outrageous shooting ability, he was fantastic in the air, gifted with an amazing leap and powerful heading ability to match his height. With the ball at his feet he could easily beat 3 or 4 defenders and score, most of his goals came from picking up the ball in deep positions and then running towards the goal and scoring. He had good pace on the ball and was very tricky even despite his height, twisting and turning and often getting out of tight areas with the ball still attached to his foot. With such a combination of skills both on the ground and in the air, it's easy to see why he was the best player in Asia throughout the 80s. He even managed to score against teams like Brazil, Argentina and England, and also against clubs such as Hamburg, Boca Juniors, São Paulo and Benfica. Unfortunately he only managed to make his World Cup debut in 1994 when he was already 35 and struggling with injuries. Despite this, in the 90 minutes he played at that tournament he still showed some excellent dribbling and managed to cause great threat against the Dutch and Belgian teams. One can only imagine what he could have achieved had he played in Europe during his peak.

Thanks a lot for this one, good to finally see a proper set for this legend.

Watching this, I totally agree with what you wrote in info text, especially for shooting. But I guess - similar to Ronaldo - why beat the GK with placement or power if you can simply dribble around him?

I can't pretend he was facing great defenders or goalkeepers on a regular basis, but I 100% think he could have been a strong player in Europe, like Cha Bum-Kun. He already gave some impressive performances in the few games he played against the top teams in the world. Even in the 94 World Cup he was maybe their standout player in the small amount of time he managed to play despite his age and injuries. You can really tell that the Saudis were taught to play by Brazilians, they produced so many excellent technicians over the years.

I updated his and Al-Naima's height, it seems they were about the same size, apparently about level with Abdullah Al-Deayea:
