He spent his entire career there, and with the Saudi national team he won the Asian Cup in 1984 and 1988, being an influential player in the first despite only being 18 years old at the time, scoring a crucial late winner in the group stage against Kuwait. He was a skillful winger, with good technical skills and elegant moves, perhaps he wasn't as tricky as some of Saudi Arabia's other great dribblers but he had good pace and balance too. His most famous attribute was his shooting, as he was gifted with a powerful shot and excelled from tight angles and other difficult positions. He scored lots of great goals, including two Roberto Carlos-like shots from near the touchline. He could link up decently well when passing to his teammates, and although he wasn't anything special in crossing accuracy, he still set up a good amount of goals, mostly because for club and country his main partner was Majed Abdullah who was excellent in the air. Despite his early start as a player, he still had a long career and played for Al-Nassr against Real Madrid and eventual champions Corinthians in the inaugural 2000 Club World Cup.
