Attack/Defence Awareness Card: Defence MindedINFO:John Stampe is considered the greatest defender in AGF's history, and perhaps their 2nd greatest player only after Aage Rou Jensen. Stampe was an elegant libero with exceptional passing range and calmness with and without the ball. He was the start of every AGF attack with his accurate passing into the midfield or directly into the forward areas. In defence he had very good anticipation and positioning. This was despite his lack of height or notable physical attributes. He was small, slow and weak in the air but AGF covered this by pairing him with big defenders like Marc Rieper, Claus Thomsen, Bjørn Kristensen and Bent Wachmann. In the professional era, nobody has played more games for AGF than Stampe and he was also captain for several years. He won 1 league title and 2 cups with the club. Unfortunately he only won a single cap for Denmark as his career largely overlapped with Morten Olsen who dominated the libero position throughout the 80s.
