Tommy Burns was a Scottish midfielder known for his close association with Celtic as a player, manager and coach. He's one of the most loved people among the club's fans. Burns was a creative midfielder, usually played on the left but often in the middle too. He had good stamina and shooting, solid technical skills and strong link-up play with his teammates. He wasn't the quickest or the best defensively, his tackling was aggressive and often unclean, but he was an influential player and many of Celtic's best attacking moves went through him. Burns played 500 games across 15 years at Celtic and won 8 caps for Scotland. He also managed Celtic for 3 years in a very difficult period for the club and was respected for playing attacking football despite the total dominance of Rangers during this time. He then held various roles in the coaching staff until his tragic death from cancer in 2008 at the age of 51. He was respected by everybody in Scotland as a great man who was loyal and dignified. One of the great heroes of Celtic.
