INFO:Billy Thomson was a Scottish goalkeeper, one of the best in the country during the 80s. He's probably most famous as Dundee United's goalkeeper when they reached the UEFA Cup final in 1987. Thomson was a tall goalkeeper who was very good at commanding his box and claiming crosses. He had good handling and could catch shots from close range and crosses even with one hand. And he was reliable, rarely made mistakes and had solid positioning and reflexes, and a powerful kick. Thomson had the difficult task of replacing the legend Hamish McAlpine in United's goal but his great performances in a strong era for the club made him one of the most popular goalkeepers in their history. Thomson is also considered one of the best goalkeepers in St Mirren's history and was a starter in their golden era of the late 70s and early 80s. With St Mirren he achieved their highest finish of 3rd in the top division and played in European games against Elfsborg, Saint-Etienne and Feyenoord. It was also during this era that he won all 7 of his caps for Scotland.
