Fazackerley is a former centre back. Blackburn Rovers' record holder for most appearances, he played 671 matches from 1969 to 1987, scoring over 20 goals. He played mainly in Second Division and got close to the promotion to First Division in many occasions, especially in the first half of the 1980s. He played also for Chester City, York City and Bury. He retired in 1990.
Despite not being a giant, Fazackerley was very effective in the air and in physical challenges. He possessed good timing of anticipation, solid speed, great sense of position, average tactical awareness and game reading ability. He wasn't one of the most dominant centre backs but his perfomances were always consistent.
