INFO:

Excellent former Everton, Rangers and England fullback. Gary Stevens was a right back mostly known for his speed and attacking style of play, and was a consistent part of the greatest Everton generation during the mid 80s. He was solid both defensively and going forward, with great physical attributes and tackling ability. His long throws were also a real threat, especially considering Everton had a strong aerial presence to capitalise on them. His positioning came under scrutiny sometimes but his speed in the recovery meant that he was very hard to get past as often he'd manage to get two tackles in before the attacker could get away from him. His partnership with Trevor Steven on Everton's right side was legendary and the two had a telepathic connection on the pitch. He also had a powerful shot and sometimes took long range free kicks that were laid off to him. His technique and dribbling ability was mostly average but he could send useful crosses with good speed into the box and often played the long ball out from the back too. Stevens won 46 caps for England and played for them at 2 World Cups in 1986 and 1990. Curiously, he once shared the pitch for England with the Tottenham player also called Gary Stevens. This moment became famous for the English fans chanting "There's only two Gary Stevens".
