Known as "Tricky Trev" for his quick footwork and agility, he also possessed good pace and excellent crossing ability which players like Graeme Sharp, Andy Gray and Gary Lineker thrived off of. With him and Sheedy on the wings, Everton were very threatening from wide positions. Steven was more direct than Sheedy, able to easily beat his man on the wing with his great dribbling and acceleration and get to the byline to whip in a cross, although his crosses from deeper positions were equally threatening. He was also a decent scoring threat, especially on the counterattack where he could utilise his speed. He was a hard working player too who would help out in defence, and his notable partnership with right back Gary Stevens was almost telepathic with how they linked up and covered for each other. He was also a good penalty taker, and was good with both feet. Steven earned 36 caps for England and played for them at 3 international tournaments in 1986, 88 and 92. |
