Boldini was a right-back. He grew up at Milan, where he was part of the first team between 1976 and 1979, playing 45 matches, winning a Scudetto and the Coppa Italia twice. In the middle, he played for Spezia and Como. He had the best part of his career at Ascoli from 1979 to 1983, appearing in 126 games and scoring 4 goals. He retired in 1990 after spells at Napoli, Atalanta, Pistoiese and Saronno.
Boldini was a constant defender, not very fast nor too excellent in the basics of football but strong and an able man marker. He liked to push forward to support with efficiency the midfield and the attack, having a decent dribbling ability and a nice shot on both feet. One of his goals was, in fact, a powerful right-footed shot in a 3-1 win against Pescara in 1980. A decent crosser, he occasionally took free kicks to send the ball in the box.
