Spuri was a goalkeeper. His career began in 1979 at Anconitana, where he played 67 matches. He was a protagonist in the 1981-82 season, which ended with the team reaching the promotion to Serie C1. He had even more impressive performance the following year. Therefore, Hellas Verona decided to buy him as second choice goalkeeper. He managed to play only 10 games − mainly in Coppa Italia − because Garella very hardly missed any. After three seasons with the Gialloblu, including the 1984-85, he transferred to Udinese where he also didn't play much. He then played for several teams in minor leagues, before retiring in 1998. During his time at Anconitana, he also played for the Serie C representative team.
Spuri had in power and ability to cover the goal his best characteristics. He proved that, for example, in the only full Serie A match he played for Hellas Verona against Bari in 1986. The match though ended with a 3-1 and Spuri also showed some gaps in terms of pure goalkeeping skills. he seemed quite slow but was confident enough when coming out the goal to catch a cross, even though he wasn't gifted with a remarkable leap.
