Shaker was a centre back. He spent most of his career at Al-Tayaran from 1977 to 1988. He played also for Al-Ommal in 1976-77 and Al-Salam between 1989 and 1991, when he retired. He gained 57 caps for Iraq, scoring 3 goals and taking part to the 1984 Gulf Cup ─ won by Iraq ─ and 1986 FIFA World Cup. He was voted MVP of the 1982 Gulf Cup.
Regarded as one of the most talented ever defenders in the history of Iraq, Shaker was a brilliant centre back, tall, muscular and strong. He covered well to close the space and possessed good anticipation ability. He wasn't very fast but was gifted with nice technique to defend the ball and decent dribbling. Thanks to these qualities, he could push forward to support the attack. Left-footed, he delivered fine passes, either short ones or crosses, while his pinpoint passes from the back weren't too accurate.
