Gu Guangming is a former right winger and right side midfielder. He spent the majority of his career at Guangdong from 1976 to 1985. He then transferred to Germany at Koblenz in 1986-87, becoming the second Chinese to play in a European professional league. The following year, he joined Darmstadt, where he remained until his retirement
in 1992, making 107 appearances and scoring 8 goals. He capped for China 50 times for China, scoring 12 goals.
A very short player, Gu Guangming was highly talented, ingenious, incredibly fast, gifted with superb dribbling. He possessed the ability to move out of tight spaces on the flanks or in the corners while avoiding tackles, eventually breaking through the defence with ease. He always showed agility and outstanding technique, no matter how strong and fierce his opponents were as he could overcome them one by one. Despite being a stubborn dribbler, he had the ability to pass the ball suddenly. He also was a decent header despite his short size.
